31 Days...

As a break for myself from the whole infertility thing...

It has not rained at all in 31 days.  And the 7 day forecast has zero rain.  Our poor yard looks terrible; but Shaft & I are too lazy to water it. I could say that we are too 'green', but most of y'all know us well enough to know that's a load of crap.   Yea, we care about the environment and aren't overtly wasteful, but we aren't 'green' by any stretch of the imagination.

For me this has been a big change from when I was younger; remember Exxon Valdez? Yea, that summer we went on vacation, and my parents would stop at an Exxon gas station, and I would force them to go somewhere else b/c Exxon was HORRIBLE and distroyed all of those animals.  Now it definitely would have been ironic had I gone to work for them; but I do work in the oil & gas industry, and I even billed out a bunch of barge invoices yesterday.

Anyway, our yard looks awful.  Last night at 5pm when I got home from work I saw neighbors all over the place watering their yards. I get the point of watering them, and I realize that doing it closer to dark; or early in the morning isn't always fesiable; but it makes me wonder if people realize watering them at the hottest part of the day doesn't do a whole lot of good anyway, that it's basically a waste of water.

Another bad thing about the lack of rain; they have issued a burn ban - well, if you are aware the 4th of July is coming up; and unless we get some rain between now and next week no firework fun for us .   Also, if you aren unaware, my 32nd birthday is on the 5th, and b/c of that I just LOVE the 4th... it's always like a pre-party for my birthday.

I've been talking about our lack of 'greenness' (is that even a word?).  Well, we are going to a X-mas in July party next month; and Shaft is going to fry a turkey... cannot wait.  Well, our turkey frier still had oil in it from a couple of years ago; apparently peanut oil does not conjeal - so Shaft poured it out in our compost pile, on top of ashes from our grill; and grass clippings.  He did this sometime last week (I can't remember which day, either Wed or Thurs).  Well, at some point on Saturday afternoon while I was taking a nap our backyard caught on fire.  Shaft smelled some smoke; and initially figured that someone was cooking something - but then he heard some crackling. He thought, man is someone burning stuff in their yard??? (we live in a sub-division where open fires are illegal).  He goes outside and sees our fence, and part of the yard on fire - he runs back inside and picks up the phone, and calls 911.  We have a transformer box in our yard; right next to where the fire was... lovely - well, they tell him not to put water on an electrical fire.  The box was not on fire; it was just next to the box.  He and our neighbors get the fire put out; and the fire department show up to make sure it's all out.  They claim 'natural causes' - I blame the peanut oil.  We also had a a pooper scooper that's stainless steel, and the sun probably hit it just right to spark the area.  So, now we have an area of fence that we need to replace b/c Titan can fit thru the hole; and last night he got into the neighbors yard, and they left their gate open, so he was in the front yard.

Anyway - we need RAIN!!!! This is awful for June - we need the rain, areas are already on water restrictions, and we will be hitting that soon.
